Maverick is continuing to do very well. He is extremely talkative lately, nickering at us constantly. We just love it!

He did manage to pull of his right shoe, and took a small chunk of hoof with it. It doesn’t look too bad and hopefully it will be an easy repair once we get the farrier out here.

We’ve had to cut back the dosages on the herbs for Maverick, we hate doing it but we are going through them very fast and are not getting the donations necessary to keep him on the higher dosages. We would rather he continue getting them consistently, then to be on the higher dosages off and on.

Thanks to Dr. Ira Gluck of Catalina Chiropractic for his donation!

Maverick has been doing very good here lately. He’s been extremely cheerful and full of himself. We’re noticing him standing up for longer periods and his appetite is incredible. He’s also got about a 1/4 inch of new hoof growth that is looking very good. He loves his shoes and they are making a huge difference in him not wearing his hooves off.

Thanks to Max and Nancy P for their donation to help Maverick! Also thank you to Marjorie B for our new wheelbarrow!

Yesterday morning we went out to find Maverick had let himself into Alf’s pen. Alf was not happy, but Maverick was incredibly pleased with himself! He was extremely bright eyed and full of it. It took a bit of effort to get him out as he did not want to leave, he thought Alf’s pen would make a great new living space! :D

We did get rain for over an hour yesterday. Maverick took himself inside out of the rain and stood up for almost the entire time. He normally does not stand for so long unless he has a water tub to brace himself against.

Then last night he came in for dinner and then proceeded to harass Dreamsicle and threaten to steal her food, though he can’t actually get to it. But the fun seems to be in getting her all worked up.

We’ve been giving Alf some of the arthritis and hoof formulas we have for Maverick. Alf’s arthritis is really starting to improve. He has bony changes to his knees that are now shrinking. He was also out running around yesterday after the rain which he hasn’t done much of lately.

We also wanted to share a picture with you of a lemonade stand done to raise money on our behalf. Thank you Ellie and Sophie!

We’d like to give a big thanks to Ellianna who did a lemonade stand today to raise money for us! Also thank you to Jamie R for her donation to help Maverick. And to Allison T for her donation of a 10 day supply of 2 of the Chinese herb mixes. Our heartfelt thanks to all of you!

The screening of the documentary on us will be May 14th at 7pm. There will be other films shown from other students, so we are not sure exactly when the one on Equine Recline will be shown. It will be at the Grand Cinemas Crossroads on Grant Rd. We hope you can make it, but if not then not to worry it will be posted on youtube and we will link to it.

Yesterday Maverick got shoes on his front hooves. This is because he’s been wearing the hoof off as he walks. He was VERY happy to get the shoes on! He got the first one and immediately wanted to go play. :) But he willingly stood for us to get the other shoe on. He worked very hard to hold himself up to get the shoes on, and was such a good boy! We are incredibly proud of him.

You can see in the picture how much of the front of his hoof he has worn off.

Unfortunately he has not been able to wear the prosthetic as right now the pressure is too much and causing him to bleed. Until he is fully healed we cannot put it back on again.

Not a whole lot to report this past week. We are starting to feel a difference in Maverick’s muscles and tendons. Before they were as taut as a cable but now are starting to soften and become pliable.

Thank you to Donna S for her donation. It is greatly appreciated!

Maverick’s herbs cost about $300 every 3 weeks. Donations of any amount, even $1 or $5 are greatly appreciated to help with this expense.

If you are looking to do something different for your mom this Mother’s Day, honor her by making a donation to Equine Recline in her name! We will be posting the names of the mom’s so honored on the home page of the website for a week starting on Mother’s Day!

The Epona Equestrian Center in Sonoita will be holding an open house on Saturday May 10 from 11 am to 6 pm. The Epona Equestrain Center was started by Linda Kohanov author of books such as The Tao of Equus and Riding Between the Worlds.
