Well life has been interesting around here. Maverick managed to get himself into quite a bit of trouble on Monday. While I was out walking the dog I noticed Maverick backing down the fenceline between his pen and Alf’s all the while kicking. This is nothing unusual and usually leaves one feeling rather mystified as there is almost never anyone around that he could be kicking at. But this time he managed to get one of his hind legs over the middle bar of the panel and is too short to be able to pull it back over. Goes to show you how high he was kicking!

So I had to find a place to tie the dog up where he wouldn’t get stepped on by a horse and go running for the tools so I could take down the panels. At one point while I am frantically unscrewing nuts and bolts, Maverick slips backwards so that he is now straddling the panel between his back legs! I guess it’s a good thing he is already a gelding…

To make a long story short, I got Maverick undone and he has suffered no ill effects. He was a bit stiff yesterday, but has bounded back just fine. These horses sure do make life very interesting!

Thanks to Carol B. for her donation! It is greatly appreciated. :)

We are very excited to announce that the Swingin’ SaddleBabes are going to be publishing a ”Hunks & Horses” calendar for 2009 featuring Tucson farriers, and they have selected Equine Recline as the charity to donate a portion of the proceeds too! Make sure to visit them at http://www.swinginsaddlebabes.com and make sure to order your calender! These would make great Christmas gifts!

Thanks to Jamie R. and Jessi R. for their donations! These two girls donated their allowance to help the horses here at Equine Recline. We are so incredibly touched and honored that they would choose to do so!

Maverick is feeling incredibly fiesty! He let himself into Alf’s pen yesterday, much to Alf’s horror. As I went to go collect Maverick, Alf followed along behind me throwing a hissy fit! Once I had Maverick, Alf ran into his stall, all the while letting everyone know he was NOT happy! Maverick on the other hand was not happy having to leave as he was having a great time.

The shoulder solution unfortunately did not seem to be the key for Maverick. We didn’t notice that much difference with him on it. So we just have him on the Tendon Solution and have increased it to 3 x’s a day.

The Ground Control Horse Shoes have held up wonderfully! We are really pleased with how well the shoes have stayed on despite all the mud and muck we’ve had around here. We were a bit worried that the way he walks would have the front of these shoes worn away to nothing, but they are actually holding up just as good if not better than the steel ones!

Thank you Kathy B for your donation!

Okay well obviously having two of us doing posts hasn’t helped us keep this blog any better up to date. But we shall keep plugging away at it and hopefully we’ll get better about it.

Maverick is doing good. He is loving the cooler weather we’ve been having. He’s been incredibly talkative and very bright eyed! We had an animal communicator talk to him and the first thing she said was that he’s a goofball! She got it in one! :) But she also said that his legs don’t bother him at all, which we’ve felt but it was nice to have it confirmed.

Alf has been up to his usual antics with wandering in to eat any food Maverick leaves, constantly begging for more food, even if he can’t bear to bring his nose up out of his tub away from the pile of food he already has!

We’ve tried to keep the blog more factual and upbeat with occasional small lapses, but is there more you are wanting to hear about the rescue? More details, the downs and not just the ups? Or? If there’s something you’re curious about, want to read more about, see more information on, or whatever, make sure to let us know. This blog is for our supporters, so give us your opinions on what you want to be seeing on here! Post a comment, or send us an e-mail, but let us know your thoughts.

Happy Labor Day!

First off I want to send out a challenge to everyone. As I’m sure all of you are aware hay prices are steadily rising and are expected to reach at least $20 or more for a bale of bermuda hay this winter. As it is, hay is currently $16 a bale. We need people that are willing to make a commitment to sending money each month that we know will be there to help care for these horses. So my challenge to each of you is to sign up for the Equine Recline Champion program and make a commitment to donate at least $5 a month. Won’t you please be a Champion for these horses?

I hope everyone has gotten through the monsoons safely. We’ve had some horrible flooding, thankfully not affecting the horses much. The roads have been a completely different story though.

In case you haven’t been, make sure to check out the website! It has been completely updated and has a very different look to it now. I hope you all enjoy it. If you have any questions or problems with the site, please feel free to contact us at info@equinerecline.org
