Wow we have a new updated website. A few more things need to be added but great job and thank you Mandi… Maverick is doing well. I wish I could say that he is walking better but he has such a fabulous attitude and he just LOVES LIFE… He seems to be putting on some weight which is good but it needs to be monitored as we do not want to stress his legs with additional weight. The horses are loving the pastures. We now have a second pasture which has been fenced for their enjoyment. Be sure to check our “How to Help” page as there is a new site which allows you to play games and donate your tickets to the charity of your choice. This accumulates much faster than the 1cent for searches and if you’re an avid game player you don’t have to feel guilty for playing games any more as you are helping the rescue while you play. Thanks to y’all…

So far the new plastic shoes are holding up very well for Maverick and he really seems to like them. He’s been very alert here lately and just nickering like crazy. He has both Sunshine and Dreamsicle living next to him now, which he just loves. He spends most days out on the pasture, which Alf also has access to. You often see the two of them out grazing.

Suerte has really started coming out of his shell here recently. It has been awesome to watch! He’s finally started seeking attention from people and interacting a lot more. He just adores kids and loves to hang out with them. He especially loves it if he can find someone who will stand and blow noses with him! He will do that for hours if you let him! He really will make someone an absolutely wonderful horse. He’s only 5, and has a lot of very good years left ahead of him.

We’d like to introduce a product that we use at the rescue. Actually it was developed by one of the rescues co-founders and after a lot of demand from volunteers who’ve used it, it is now available for sale. The product is called Tiara’s Miracle. It is a mane, tail, and coat conditioner and detangler. It takes dust out of the coat, makes taking out tangles much easier, and smells wonderful! We hope that you enjoy it as much as we and our volunteers enjoy using it on the horses here at the rescue. Check out more information at http://www.ShayLynnLLC.com

Starting today we will have horses listed on our Rehoming page for individuals who can no longer care for their horses for one reason or another but need to find a good home for them. Please feel free to pass on their information. Listings will be posted for 30 days only unless the owner contacts us that the horse has found a home or they need more time.

All the horses are doing well and thoroughly enjoying the grass in the pasture after all our monsoon rains. Maverick is doing very well with his new shoes. He seems to have a little more traction which means he isn’t digging up the dirt as much when he walks. Funds are seriously needed to help us continue his treatments. Thanks to all of you that help keep our horses happy.

Jude, the President of Equine Recline, has decided to start doing some of the posts on the blog. Hopefully this will mean the blog gets updated more frequently, and that you all will get a little different look at the rescue, than just my posts. I will continue posting too, and those posts will continue to be posted on the home page of the website. Though that may only be like once a week right now. So if you want to keep up with everything make sure to visit the blog directly at http://www.equinerecline.org/blog

Maverick got his new shoes today and we are very pleased. We are trying some plastic shoes called Ground Control Horseshoes. We are already seeing that they give him a little more grip when walking and standing.

Here are some new pictures of him.

We are starting a new project with our blog. The newest post on the home page of the website will only be updated once a week, but we are going to try and update the blog on a regular basis. This will give you all an idea of what it happening on a daily basis.

Post will now include updates from Jude, President as well as Mandi, Vice President who has been writing the blog since the beginning.

We hope you enjoy the new changes and getting to hear more what is happening with all the horses here at Equine Recline.

Today we had a group of a couple of moms that home school and 7 kids. They came to learn about horse rescue and to help out with the daily chores. It was quite the challenge for the two of us to try to keep track of that many young ones and keep everyone occupied. Attention spans varied a LOT. Mandi and I wish we could have cloned ourselves in order for us to have spent more quality time with each child/person. Many thanks to all of you that helped today.

Maverick had his feet trimmed on Thursday. He did a wonderful job standing, though he was a little grump as he hadn’t had breakfast first and was pouting! He has such an attitude. The farrier took off over 1/2 inch in hoof. He’s grown out almost all the damage that he did to his right hoof. We are so pleased.

Unfortunately we got the wrong sized plastic shoes for him. So they had to be sent back, and new ones ordered. Hopefully next week we can get those put on him.

We also got the Shoulder formula to start him on, on Thursday. So far no difference in him, but we are hoping and praying.

Here is a comparison of his right hoof from May 2, and July 31. You can see how much damage he had and how wonderfully it has grown out.

We are going to try some new shoes on Maverick. They are urethane horseshoes called Ground Control Horse Shoes. We are hoping they will provide him with a better grip than the steel shoes. And maybe not dig up the ground quite so bad!

We are also changing the Chinese herb mixes he is on. He will continue with the Tendon Repair, but will be dropping the Arthritis and Hoof Growth. He has had so much hoof growth while on the hoof mix that he may not need it any more. We are dropping the Arthritis mix as we are adding in a shoulder mix. The way he stands has put a lot of strain on his shoulders, so we are going to specifically treat his shoulders for a period of time and see what happens.

He is in very good spirits and quite happy as we moved him to a pen where he has free access to the pasture during the day. We do not let him out there at night as he just gets into a little bit too much trouble at night! We’ve also found that having a hay bale in his stall in the corner up against the walls is very helpful for him to brace himself on. With bracing himself, he stands up for much longer periods and the more he’s on his feet, the better.

Life has been interesting around here with the monsoons. We’ve had a lot of flooding on the roads, which have meant waiting for several hours before being able to get home. For the most part the barn is staying dry with some occassional flooding in a couple of the stalls, which is thankfully drying out very quickly.

The wonderful side benefit of course is that the grass is growing like crazy! The horses are wanting out on it constantly. Some of them, okay actually one of them (Maverick) refuses to come in even if it’s pouring rain, so he’s banned from the pasture if we are expecting a storm. Alf is having a ball as he has free access to the pasture all day and all night.

Speaking of Maverick, he managed to escape today, much to his delight. I noticed him happily grazing outside Suerte’s pen as I looked out the dinning room window. I swear he gets into more trouble than all the other horses combined!

If you’ll notice on the website we have a new page titled Rehoming underneath the horses section. This is a page for horses in need of homes that people contact us about. Unfortunately we cannot take in every horse we are contacted about, but hope this might be a help resource to connect horses needing homes and people looking for horses.

Welcome to July! I hope everyone had a very safe and wonderful 4th of July.

Monsoons have started here, which on the one hand is wonderful as the pasture is starting to green up! But on the other hand there’s the flooding, mud, humidity, bugs, etc, etc.

Maverick is still being his spunky little self. Not seeing much in the way of changes, other than continued excellent hoof growth. I have to admit, one of the hardest parts is when you’ve done all you can and then must sit back and wait.

Thanks to Sherrie for her donation!

Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and needed in order for us to continue here at Equine Recline. You too can be a part of making a difference for these horses through your donation. And remember donations are tax deductible.
